Robert O. Baratta, M.D.
Robert was born and raised in the New York metropolitan area. He attended Columbia University’s College of Physicians and Surgeons and completed an internal medicine residency at St. Luke’s Hospital. After two years in the Epidemic Intelligence Service of the U.S. Public Health Service, he completed an ophthalmology residency at Vanderbilt University.
He practiced for 28 years in Stuart, Fl as a board certified general ophthalmologist. He was an officer and board member of the Florida Society of Ophthalmology and was awarded its Shaler Richardson Award for Service to Ophthalmology on two occasions. He is also a member of the American Academy of Ophthalmology where he served on two committees dealing with coding and reimbursement matters. Dr Baratta was an examiner for the American Board of Ophthalmology and an Adjunct Professor of Ophthalmology for Columbia University. He is a member of the Vanderbilt University Eye Institute Advisory Board.
He and his wife of 49 years, Carol, have three children and eight grandchildren who currently range in schooling from Dartmouth and SMU to elementary school. He loves blue water fishing and still tries to play golf.
As he reduces his role in administrative health care, Dr Baratta has returned to his original choice of seeing patients.
